このエマニューという人物はかつてのカルカソンヌ司教アマニアン・ド・フォワと同一人物である。ピエール・ブランダムールによると、1556年から1558年にアマニアン・ド・フォワはマコン司教だったという(*2)。
本編は四季ごとに分けられ、ペストや熱病の症状などについて説明がなされている。
末尾には「1559年3月」(ANNO CHRISTI. 1559. Mense Martij.)と書かれている。
