ヒロシマの折鶴
A little girl made paper cranes
小さな少女が 鶴を折った
To ease her pain from illness,
病気の痛みを 和らげるため
For the more cranes one makes
折れば折るだけ
More years can be live, they say.
それだけ長く生きられるという 伝説を信じて
Thousands of cranes will save
何千もの鶴を 折ったなら
All who suffer from disease.
病に苦しむ すべての人たちを救ってくれる
As she folded the paper
少女が鶴を折るにつれ
The crane's promise grew and grew
折鶴の願いは 次第次第に 大きくなった
The young girl's desire to live
少女の生きる願いは
Belongs to humankind;
人類の願い
Crossing seas and mountains, the cranes
海を横切り 山を越え 鶴たちは
Took her message to the world,
彼女のメッセージを 世界に 運んだ
"Don't let them take your health,
「健康を 損ねないように
The most precious thing you own.
あなたの持っている 最高の宝物
Don't let war take over peace,
戦争に 平和を 奪わせないで
Our world needs it to survive."
私たちの世界が 生き延びるために」
After the birds came the fall
折鶴たちが 秋に 飛来し
And her twelfth and final turning;
少女の12回目の そして最後の季節
She became a cold monument
彼女は 冷たい モニュメント（記念像）となった
To the hottest bombing ever.
いまだかつてなかった 灼熱の爆弾にたいして
The Japanese girl's last wish
日本人の少女の 最後の願いは
Can be seen in these burning words,
燃えるような 言葉のうちに 見ることができる
"Let me be the last to die this way.
「こんな風に 死ぬのは 私が最後になりますように
Go cranes, tell people my wish."
折鶴たちよ 飛んでいき、 みんなに 私の願いを つたえておくれ」
